One-off skis since 2005

Sick of seeing so many easily-broken or hard-to-repair skis across his repair bench, Alex Herbert set out to make tougher skis. The journey continues, but along the way we've loved putting hand-made skis into the hands of individuals who care about locally made and well made.

KINGSWOOD SKIERS SAY

"I ski these things anywhere and in all conditions and love them. Totally recommend the unique Kingswood experience."

Inside the factory

Read more Here's a stylised look at the birth of a pair of Kingswood Skis through the lens of Jason Larraman at Man In Your Head Productions. It's a quirky but close-up look inside the Kingswood factory. Kingswood is a boutique hand-made ski company based in Lyttelton, New Zealand. Each pair is made to order by company founder Alex Herbert.

Mac's Craft Collective - Kingswood Skis

Read more In the late 90s Christchurch Alex Herbert stopped fixing skis and started figuring how to make them better and stronger. By 2005 he had it completely sussed. All Kingswood Skis are made with a bamboo core -- the rest of the spec depends on the skier and their riding style. This isn't a fast process. There's usually a waiting list for Alex's skis and they're also not cheap. But, as Alex likes to say, "quality only hurts once."
